The Effects of Green Care-Occupational Therapy Program for Elderly's Horticultural Work Performance and Cognitive Function and Activity of Daily Living

Abstract
Objective : This study aims to study the effect of green care-occupational therapy program on horticultural work performance, cognitive function, and daily living activity performance level for the elderly in the community through a green care-occupational therapy program that considers personal and environmental characteristics.

Methods : To investigate the effects of green care-occupational therapy program on horticultural work performance, cognitive function, and daily living activity level, this study was designed for 24 elderly people. The study applied a single-group pre-post-experimental design From March 12, 2021 to June 11, 2021, a total of 12 sessions were held once a week for 60 minutes. Pre-evaluation and post-evaluation were conducted in the first and last sessions.

Results : The green care-occupational therapy program had a significant effect on the overall horticultural performance, cognitive function, and daily living activity level of the elderly. Green care-occupational therapy program improved participation, interest and assistance, verbal communication ability, self-concept and identity, desire-impulsive adaptability, interpersonal ability, cognition and problem-solving ability, motor perception ability, proficiency, vocational adaptability. In addition, by stimulating the overall cognitive function of the elderly, orientation, place orientation, memory recall, attention, drawing areas, and the overall level of activity of daily living of the elderly were improved.

Conclusion : The higher the participation and performance level of the green care-occupational therapy program, the higher the cognitive function and the performance level of activitiy of daily living. Through this study, the usefulness of the green care-occupational therapy program was investigated as an intervention method to improve the quality of life of the elderly and reduce medical expenses in an aging society.
